PROP 50 - ELECTION RIGGING RESPONSE ACT
Proposition 50 is a statewide ballot measure that asks voters whether California should temporarily redraw its congressional districts in response to mid-decade redistricting changes made by other states.
Normally, redistricting only happens once every ten years, after the Census. But some states have passed laws allowing them to redraw districts mid-decade—an attempt to reduce Black political power and representation in order to shift national political power.
In response, California’s lawmakers passed ACA 8, SB 280, and AB 604, which together created Proposition 50. If approved by voters:
-
California would adopt temporary congressional maps for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections.
-
These new maps would only go into effect if another state (like Texas) enacts mid-decade redistricting.
-
After the 2030 Census, redistricting would return to the standard process led by the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission.
This measure could affect how congressional districts are drawn and how communities are represented in Washington, D.C. It’s a major opportunity for Californians to shape how our state responds to national changes in redistricting practices.
A YES vote on this measure means: The state would use new, legislatively drawn congressional district maps starting in 2026. California’s new maps would be used until the California Citizens Redistricting Commission draws new maps following the 2030 U.S. Census.

PROP 6 - BAN SLAVERY
IN CALIFORNIA
Proposition 6 would amend the California Constitution to prohibit the state from punishing inmates with involuntary work assignments and from disciplining those who refuse to work. Instead, state prisons could set up a volunteer work assignment program to take time off sentences in the form of credits. It would let county or city ordinances set up a pay scale for inmates in local jails.
The measure’s potential costs remain unknown and a point of contention, though a related law says compensation would be set by the state corrections department.

PROP 36 - ROLLBACK PROGRESSIVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM
VOTE
NO!
Proposition 36 would reclassify some misdemeanor theft and drug crimes as felonies.
The measure would also create a new category of crime — a “treatment-mandated felony.” People who don’t contest the charges could complete drug treatment instead of going to prison, but if they don’t finish treatment, they still face up to three years in prison.
